Volunteer Opportunities

"Service is the rent each of us pays for living." ~ Marian Wright Edelman

Therapeutic Riding is a volunteer dependent program. Each child in the riding program can require anywhere from one to three volunteers. One is needed to lead the horse, and, depending on the rider's ability, one or two are needed to sidewalk and/or support the rider.

We also serve the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts by provided activities for them so they can earn their badges. Daisy level scouts are required to be on lead-line.

Volunteers for Scout group responsibilities include:

  • Being able to lead a horse with a rider
  • Directing children in horse-related activities, such as
    • Grooming
    • Explaining what horses eat
    • Demonstrating how to use reins
    • Explaining the difference between English and Western tack
    • How to keep a horse healthy

Volunteers must be at least 12 years old with horse experienc: 16 years old with no horse experience. We provide training and lesson plans/cheat sheets for all the horse-related activities.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and from all over the surrounding area. Some are in Junior or Senior High and others range from young adults to grandparents. The one thing that they all have in common is the willingness to help others.
