Staff and Volunteer Responsibilities
If your dream job involves horses and children, then we have a place for you!
Pretty Pony Pastures is hiring. We are looking for staff persons who are at least 16 years old and volunteers who are at least 12 years old with horse experience. Our opportunities are primarily on weekends (some weekdays during the summer).
Responsibilities include:
- Being able to lead a horse with a rider
- Directing children in horse-related activities, such as
- Grooming
- Explaining what horses eat
- Demonstrating how to use reins
- Explaining the difference between English and Western tack
- How to keep a horse healthy
- How to weigh a horse
- Vital signs of a horse
- And other horse-related activities
- Doing a horsey craft
We provide training and lesson plans/cheat sheets for all the horse-related activities.
Horseback riding experience is not required, but, you MUST be comfortable enough around a horse to lead and/or manage the horse and teach the topics listed above.
Work hours are flexible:
- Saturday - 1:45 pm to 4:00 pm; 4:00 pm to 6:15 pm
- Sunday - 1:45 pm to 4:00 pm; 4:00 pm to 6:15 pm
- Some weekday mornings - 9:30 am to noon - as needed
- Some weekday afternoons - 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm - as needed
