Yough group having fun at Pretty Pony Pastures

Play Day

Play Days are very similar to our scout activities but are designed for ANY youth group that wants to spend a day at the farm. We've had the YMCA schedule field trips here, Mom's groups come with their toddlers, and neighborhood groups come up for a few hours.

The guidelines are the same as for scout groups. Every child will ride and learn how to groom. Depending on the number of riders, you may select two or three other activities for your group.

The activities that you can choose from are:

  • Catching, haltering, and leading a horse
  • Bathing a horse (weather dependant)
  • How to select a horse for different types of riding
  • First aid for horses
  • Vital signs
  • Stable management
  • How horses “speak” to each other

  • Braiding the mane and tail
  • Horse markings and colors
  • What horses eat (includes making a horse treat)
  • Weight and weight control
  • Saddles and bridles – differences between English and Western riding
  • Horse breeds and what they are used for
  • How horses hear
  • How horses see

The cost of this program is $25 per rider.

The minimum number of riders for a session is six. We can accomodate groups of up to 16 riders at 2:00 pm. Groups with more than 16 riders are asked to sign up at 4:00 pm.

A deposit of $50.00 is required to hold your date. For more information or to schedule your group, we can be contacted by email or call 248.634.7276.

Play days can be scheduled throughout the year on Saturday or Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm or 4:00 pm. and on weekday mornings or afternoons during the summer.
Please check our on-line calendar for availability.
